"Building a network for sustainable plant management and conservation"

PPI

The new PPI network brings together local and international experts to combine traditional knowledge and biological sciences in the most advanced and integrated development, conservation, and education projects.
By working together with groups in collaborative partnerships, PPI develops sustainable local solutions to improve the interface between human cultures and natural environments.
Through the mentoring and education of future natural scientists in project areas, PPI hopes to see a new generation of practitioners who encourage conservation that works for local people whose survival depends on the wise use of their resources.

PPI started in January 2004, with the help of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), and builds on the work of the 12-year People and Plants Initiative, a partnership between WWF, UNESCO, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This successful partnership provides a foundation for PPI's new projects.

PPI is led by Dr. Tony Cunningham, Program Director. For further information, contact the PPI Coordinator, Louis Putzel.

By Autumn 2004, PPI will have its own new website, replacing this site, but using the same address -- www.peopleandplants.org.
