Phase 3 of People and Plants
depends
for its success on a core team,
members of which provide expert
guidance to the regional projects, drive
the whole programme, and ensure that its
various components are
well integrated. Members of the core team
include officers in various
WWF National Organisations and Programme
Offices, and the UNESCO Nairobi Office. They include: |
- Ashiq Ahmad Khan, Chief
Technical Advisor, WWF-Pakistan.
- Dr Yildiz Aumeeruddy, who
serves as Project Advisor for Nepal
and is responsible for the
best practice work on
conservation of Himalayan medicinal
plants.
- Rosalind Coles, Programme
Support Officer, WWF-UK.
- Dr Tony Cunningham, who
is responsible for much of the
best practice work in the
Multi-regional project and for laying the
foundations of a new permanent
institution for developing and promoting
applied ethnobotany.
- Alan Hamilton, WWF
Programme Co-ordinator.
- Dr Robert Höft (UNESCO),
who leads the work in Kenya and
Uganda and is responsible for
publication arrangements at UNESCO,
including production of Working Papers.
- Yeshi Choden Lama, WWF
Programme Office for Nepal.
- Professor Pei Shengji, who
serves as Project Advisor for
Pakistan.
- Susanne Schmitt, Assistant
WWF Programme Co-ordinator and
responsible, in particular, for
co-ordination of a campaign to place
wood-carvings from Kenya on a more
sustainable basis.
- Martin Walters, Editor, looks after the People & Plants
publications and also maintains and updates the website.
The Global Diversity Foundation:
After being on the People and Plants team since 1992,
Gary Martin's contract with WWF ended in 2000.
He has now started The Global Diversity Foundation(GDF),
with the mission of "promoting agricultural, biological and cultural diversity around the world".
