PPI represents a new modality of international collaboration for research, conservation, and management of plant resources. It provides technical expertise and plant management skills to supplement those found in local communities and institutions. It combines indigenous and local knowledge with botanical science to solve problems. In contrast to more conventional forms of "working together," PPI does not design projects and then implement them through local institutions -- PPI helps local groups with their own initiatives.
